I was beyond thrilled to find out that the famous Korean chicken chain KyoChon had opened their first branch in Malaysia at 1 Utama this past December. It was a lucky coincidence as I’d just discovered the brand during a recent business trip to Jakarta.

KyoChon has four types of chicken – original soy, red spicy, honey and salsal. The first three come in a choice of wings or sticks. So far I’ve tried the red spicy, which is really spicy by my standards, and my favourite is the original soy. I find myself craving the original soy chicken every now and then!

The salsal strips are made of boneless chicken breast meat. There is also a choice of sauces to go along with the salsal chicken. If you want a spicy kick, the red spicy sauce would be a safe bet. I prefer the honey mustard sauce instead.

We also had 2 servings of their potato wedges to go with our meal and a serve of butter rice.

It would have been great if KyoChon Malaysia made the pickled radish free together with each order of chicken. Either that or increase the amount of pickled radish as I did feel that the serving was a tad on the small side for the MYR 3.00 that I paid.

I returned again a few days later for lunch and this time tried the set menu. This is the salsal set, which comprises of 2 strips of salsal chicken and 2 wings. You can choose between the red spicy or original soy flavour for the wings.

As KyoChon 1Utama is a relatively new outlet, when I visited in the month of December 2013, there were some operational issues to be ironed out. Nevertheless, I found that the waitstaff were polite and friendly, explaining to us exactly what was going on and approximately when our food would be coming out. Bonus points for good training and I don’t mind waiting out their teething issues. Response and PR on their Facebook page is excellent as well.

  • Opening hours – 10am to 10pm (Sunday to Thursday) and 10am to 10.30pm (Friday and Saturday)
